matthew herbert and goldsmiths universitys in-house record label nx records presents the latest in their series of experimental electronic vinyl 12-s. nx14x showcases the work of two boundary pushing goldsmiths students: first, uk born and south africa raised composer galina juritz, whose chopped and spliced rnb doused in lush string arrangements enduces a fidgety unease and zero gravity lushness in equal measure. and second, rising dj and producer harry rodger, with two cuts of organic, summery techno that would sound perfectly at home pumping out of the nts radio speakers into a sun-baked gillett square.

moving to london, producing two sell-out records with mall grabs steel city dance discs, and nailing mixes for rinse, nts and boiler room, made 2018 a landmark year for australian-born producer and dj loods. following his extensive touring across the uk and europe, loods has been working away in the studio to produce his classic music company debut. this two-track 12inch marks an impressive label outing for the artist, as title track walking away offers a summer-ready sound with soft keys, a soulful vocal sample and lilting beat. on the b-side is the deep and grooving the feeling, where the burgeoning artist presents another track primed for summer dancefloors with this disco house number.

manchesters yadava steps up to the plate for the next installment of the high praise edits series. a member of the cities infamous party collective so flute collective, yadava has steadily been making a name for himself as a incredible selector with productions to match (including recent release on the likes of church and banoffee pies records). he also holds down the expansions show on nts radio alongside co-host contours. with his incredible knack for weaving spiritual, soulful and uplifting energies throughout his music, it s no wonder we had to get him on board for high praise edits vol iv.

thoma bulwer returns with jandaze , his latest ep via parasol culture featuring long-time partner in crime anna wall. it follows parasol 001 their first joint vinyl release, that sold out on the shelves gaining support from the likes of mood ii swing and cab drivers plus on the airwaves via nts. their jandaze ep has already been doing the rounds on the dj circuit in hackney wick and beyond. ‘patience’ was the result of a late night jam session with sync boxes, groove benders and the classic tr-909. after much fine-tuning, it’s been tried and tested by cinthie on her recent australia tour and is set to be a staple club cut for this summer. although ‘insouciant’ means a casual lack of concert, a lot of work went into making this one. it’s the most laid-back of the bunch, with smallville-esque juno 106 melodies perfect for the afterparty or warm up session. this goes out to the post-nyd loft party crew in the wick where it was played for the first time. try pronouncing this one at 7am in the morning… ‘fridge speed’ is a minimal house cut influenced by thoma’s garage roots. think rudely placed analogue synth stab melodies, ‘tuff’ skippy drums and big subs ideal for early hours and “it’s a london thing” house sets. ‘egress’ was made with long jam takes from thoma’s modular system. deep, dubby beats, evolving synths and textures make up this track thats been road-tested on the world famous fabric room 1 sound system by voigtmann in his extended set before ricardo villalobos. current support comes from maya jane coles, archie hamilton franck, roger, cinthie, voigtmann, john dimas.

having played at on loops 1st birthday in 2017 after guesting on moxies nts show the previous year, we are delighted to welcome lk back to the family for our seventh release. hailing from leeds, hes been a producer on the rise for a few years now after standout releases on labels like shall not fade and ruff draft. previously releasing under the alias viers, as lk he offers something with a more soulful touch. each offering on the three-tracker brings something slightly different to the package. title track ‘dreams has been made with the dancefloor in mind, whilst the summery ‘(i wanna) make luv 2 u is drawn from laid-back soul and motown influences. slow burner ‘summer of 93 closes the ep, with a direct nod to the slinky vibes of 70s disco.

norwegian duo smerz had a prolific 2017, which saw the copenhagen-based henriette and catharina play the likes of club 2 club, moma ps1, sell out half life parties of their own, as well as release five new tracks along with five self-directed videos. clearly not ones to wait around, smerz go in to the new year with their have fun ep on the horizon for release via xl recordings in march 2018. with their unique electronic sound blending deconstructed club music, minimalist r&b and experimental pop and techno, smerz are also prolific djs who s djing style takes a similar route. mixing live vocals over their own music and interlaced with choice cuts aimed squarely at the dancefloor, this duo dj hard in a live setting and are thrilling to watch as well as listen. smerz currently host their own monthly nts radio residency, mixing cutting-edge dance music and darker tones, in what is turning in to their trademark style.

sonikku comes riding back into the lobster tropical gardens with a flurry of sparkling, arpeggiator-driven ambient jams featuring three extended reworks from nts regular mobbs.
sonikku’s originals apply a drier and skit-length pop approach to synth-based home listening. building a borderline-saccharine melodic base to each track then upping the sheen and the tropical & twinkling production. shots of balearic appear in earth temple, christmas jingles echo from the depths of diamond dust, while sky garden channels a more direct emotional palette of warm synthesizer heartbreak.
mobbs’ approach is to allow each track to breathe around it’s core strengths over a longer time frame, whilst enhancing and encouraging each element to make it’s space and time to enter the track. the shifts and swaying structures turn shorter synth ideas into fully blown journeys that become almost hypnotic by the end. a soft, dream-like ride into bliss.

get pissed is a french duo known in paris for their popular -wrecka spinazz club- and -belleville boogie- parties that included daniele baldelli, margie, boris from ostgut etc on the bills. they are signing here singular ruff mpc tracks for their debut ep that has an uncommon signature between jazz, techno and deep beatdown. laroye on flipside has been already in the broken beat game for a decade at least. you might remember his three eps on faces records including some kinetic space jazz remix from inverse cinematics better known today as mcde. the french producer now based in brighton delivers something special again, journeying through disco, jazz and those west london signature beats. mgbk001 is an ep of two halves. the a-side bumps with two very deep house jams, whilst the b-side sees a freestyle disco-jazz we call broken beats. music for the mind, body and universal soul!

following a series of standout releases on stateside imprint, astral plane, e.m.m.a returns to coyote records for the first time proper with new 12-, mindmaze / pumpkin emoji . having first provided a remix on spokes inaugural ep ( green eyes ) for the label back in 2015, e.m.m.a has since kick-started her angel food radio show on nts alongside aimee cliff, and also established producer girls — a nationwide workshop initiative aimed at helping aspiring women get into music production. on mindmaze , described by e.m.m.a. herself as medieval funky and originally made as a special for mumdance on rinse fm, she pokes fun at the club, going in sample-heavy and re-fixing anthemic windows 95-era melodies over a stampeding, heavyset 4x4 beat. -this tune is a homage to the encarta 95 cd rom-, she explains. on the flip meanwhile, pumpkin emoji references the glossy, crystalline textures and lo-slung 808 bass of early e.m.m.a. gems like 2014 s light years , a potent reminder of why she remains one of the uk s most innovative and quietly rebellious club producers. tracklist: 1. mindmaze, 2. pumpkin emoji.

following a double dose of newfound los angeles talent, apron records founder, steven julien (aka funkineven) returns home with the debut release from london-based enigma, molinaro. apron 35 is classic apron records material five slabs of soul-drenched techno anchored by groove and grit from a new name with plenty of experience. molinaro who has honed his production and djing craft for over a decade is one of the capital s best technicians behind the decks. a skill most recently recognised by nts radio, who rewarded him with a regular monthly slot on the airwaves. the first of which shot straight into the nts picks for the week. opener gio cements the tone from the off, drifting in with warm, enveloping pads, quickly joined by beefy drums and percussion in a five-minute sprawl out. jtl is arguably the standout a boogie-influenced roller aimed at prime time dancefloor. ty and -molow showcase the deeper, moodier face of molinaros sound palette before the beatless sofar rounds things out, paying homage to ryuichi sakamotos synth brilliance.

xan is a moscow-based producer originally from the town of votkinsk – the birthplace of pyotr tchaikovsky. xan then moved to st. petersburg, and eventually to moscow where he became part of the johns’ kingdom community. there, he began solidify himself as an established electronic music producer and dj. his dedication allowed him to fuse new influences with his own musical background as well as single-handedly organise a unique underground festival in hometown votkinsk. later he becomes a resident of the main diy club in moscow, rabitza, and a frequent guest at other notable events such as arma17, boiler room or nts.
